Furnace Maintenance & Installation

A furnace that has been serviced going into the season is a furnace that is still running in February. The work is unglamorous and it is the cheapest heating money anyone spends all year.

What a real service covers

A furnace service is a safety check as much as a performance one. The heat exchanger, the flue and the combustion side are the parts that matter most, and they are the parts a filter change does nothing for.

  • Heat exchanger inspected for cracking
  • Burners cleaned and combustion checked
  • Flue and venting checked for blockage and draw
  • Blower motor and belt, where fitted
  • Safety controls and limit switches tested
  • Filter replaced and the return checked for restriction

The one that is not negotiable

A cracked heat exchanger can put combustion gases into the air a household breathes. It is the single thing we will not leave running, and if we find one we will tell you straight and shut it down.

Every home with any fuel-burning appliance in it should also have a working carbon monoxide alarm on each floor. That is true whether or not we ever service your furnace.

Replacement without the upsell

A furnace that is fifteen years old and working is a furnace that is working. Age on its own is not a reason to replace anything, and we are not going to tell you otherwise.

When a unit does need replacing, sizing is the whole game. Oversized furnaces short-cycle, heat unevenly and wear themselves out early, and oversizing is the most common mistake in the trade because it is the safe-looking one.
