Dedham is one of the oldest towns in the country and it has never been rebuilt in one go, so what is actually behind a wall is usually three eras of work spliced together. Around Dedham Square and East Dedham the housing is close-set and old; Oakdale and Riverdale carry a lot of early twentieth-century single-family building.
